C6

Czechoslovakia

A short campaign but a first-class one. It will give you a chance to show just how much you have learned so far.

Historically, the setting is certainly based on fact - things were indeed pretty chaotic around Prague at that time, with the Red Army moving in on the city and the Czech Resistance rising up against the Germans and the Germans trying to get the hell out and so on. And who knows, it's entirely possible there could have been a German scientist in the area somewhere, though it's hard to think what he'd have been doing there.

Of course the idea of the SAS being given the job of getting him out is pure fantasy; that would have been a mission for SOE or OSS. But if you set that aside, the operation is quite a credible one.

MISSION: A German scientist wants to defect. You have to get him out of Prague alive.

PERSONNEL: Back when this was the last campaign in the game, you could just pack it with your very best men. You still need a good solid lineup of first-string players - you can bring out guys like Vanguard and Stirling and McGatt now - but since H&D Deluxe continues with the Devil's Bridge addon campaigns, you want to be a little conservative and make sure you don't use up all your top guns. Save a few for later on; you'll want them in the Ardennes. And I'm afraid C6M2 in particular offers several chances for somebody to get killed.

EQUIPMENT: MP-44s all around; by now you should have plenty - MP-40s if you haven't been ghouling energetically enough. Three or four sniper rifles, preferably Mausers so you can scavenge up more ammo in the field. A dozen or so Mills bombs and an equal number of potato mashers.

For the first mission, you'll also want either a bazooka with a couple of rounds or, preferably, a couple of Panzerfausts.

Get moving. You've got to get to Prague before they cancel all the Czechs.
