C3

Germany

Considered strictly as game material, this is an excellent campaign. It includes some of the hardest missions in H&D, involving just about all the various skills - indoor and outdoor, night and day, driving vehicles and setting demolitions, it's got it all.

It won't stand up under any sort of reality check, of course. The idea of a team of Allied agents trying to sabotage the German missile program isn't entirely ridiculous, but SAS certainly would not have been involved.

Even worse, the physical setting is laughable. Peenemunde isn't located up in the mountains; it's on a low sandy island in the Baltic - there are some pine woods, but nothing like the Alpine mountain scenery of this campaign.

But if you can ignore the inconvenient facts, this is a fun campaign. In fact in terms of excitement and entertainment it may be the best campaign in H&D.

MISSION: You're supposed to be trying to do something detrimental to the Nazi missile program. Just exactly what is never made quite clear.

PERSONNEL: For this one you'll need some pretty damn good men. Quick reactions are more important than pure marksmanship - there's a fair amount of sniping to be done, but you'll want to do it yourself - and, because there's a good chance of getting hit in some of these missions, a high endurance rating is also valuable.

For the most part strength isn't at a premium - there's not a great deal of looting to be done for most of these missions - but the last mission does call for a certain amount of muscle. Whintson and Wooley are excellent for this campaign; they've both got plenty of strength and high endurance, yet they shoot fast and straight too.

EQUIPMENT: As usual, you'll want submachine guns for everybody. At least two sniper rifles with a couple hundred rounds or so. Two Brens and about a thousand rounds of ammo. Fifteen or twenty Mills grenades and an equal number of potato mashers. And at least one knife.

You will also need ten antitank mines - that's going to run up your total load, but it can't be helped, you've got to have them - and half a dozen explosive charges.

Load it all on the plane and let's get going.
