H&D is still the best

Unread post by jojimbo » Fri Oct 26, 2007 10:35 pm

Hi there,I'ts been some time.
I dropped by to see if there was a way to mod the models and graphics in H&D2 seeing as theres no H&D3 in the offing,or whether IS had made an editor available.Seems pretty sad they are letting such a great concept as H&D die a horrible death.Lets recap on recent events.
1999,the best tactical 1st/3rd ps arrives in H&D.You know i still love to play this game for the novelty and trip down memory lane
2003 H&D2 arrives, looks and feels great still, nowadays maybe a bit of a graphics uplift needed to upgrade the mostly 128 x 128 textures and add bump and light maps needed but on the whole still a good feel.Very immersive, and the "3 saves and your out" on hard phew  nods01 adds to the intensity of stealth missions. The only game to equal H&D in this is the original Rainbow6 game, anyone remember that? no save games at all.I remember banging my desktop in heated frustration and the neighbours asking my wife "if everything was ok at home" LOL
Call of Duty2,tbh I played it once, straight through and thats it,never went back.Talk about milking the ww2 theme and throwing everything in it along with the kitchen sink, dumb ai,and stupid suicidal germans,CoD franchise sucks dogs balls.
Call of Duty4= L M F A O,they never did get the AI and anims right did they.no mass on the bodies imho
MoH Airborne, the demo is really good, nice feel, good graphics, good ai.The game itself is a non starter, and by the end your shooting at Mortyr style bosses, what a waste of a good concept, great levels too short, but still no squad command and lots of useless god mode ai running into your line of fire=EA thinks were still stupid.
Brothers in Arms, hey I love this game,it has its moments but the look and feel is good, plus you got fire and suppression teams to command, for a full on squad action an awesome game can't wait for hells highway.

So for a sum up,H&D2 still blows all others out of the water, except maybe BiA good effort from Gearbox, truly the experience is gameplay, all the graphic niceties in the world wont help your game to be playable time after time after time which you can do with H&D2,there simply is so many was to skin a cat with this game and replaying it was totally awesome, would be nice to have seen old H&D maps remade to H&D2 but even with the petition no luck there I guess.

Finally,a big thanks to Jason and Lars for keeping this small community alive,if only there were a way to mod the game, make new maps, models etc and breathe life into this, the first and best of the ww2 genre pc games.

UPDATE:

ok found a way to edit the uniforms, albeit a "backdoor hax" so expect some details soon,my guess is the texture size is 256 x 256 ,or 512 x 512,so i'll give 1024 x 1024 a go and start on the brits.
why? why not,it's fun

Zdenda who posts new maps on www.hidden-and-dangerous2.com has created a way to mod maps. I am not sure exactly how he did it since there is no editor or H&D2 but he told me he used several other editors to do this. He has created dozens of variations of older maps that you can download from that site.

I'd like to thank Lars for keeping this site and the german based H&D site alive. People come and go and make a big difference like Zdenda with his maps and MANY others but Lars is always around
