Urgent Question, again...

Unread post by chinch123 » Sat Oct 08, 2005 10:23 am

Hey everybody...
you lucky ones should really know that your us/uk version of the game is so much better than the german censored one, in which uk soldiers speak german and so on... :(
i kept up trying to change my german version into a us/uk one by searching for the files i need to replace, but those are a) way too big b) nowhere to find
so i gave up. but now theres one thing id at least like to do:
the german voices of the soldiers in-game are the stupiest ones ive ever heard in a ww2 game... it sounds like the developers tried to give a childish/amuseable/tame touch to the game by implementing "funny" speech...

now: is it possible to TURN OFF the in-game speech, but not the screams (when getting hit for example), just the speech for commands and so on (like: follow me, hold position, ok, roger, negative, etc...)

and: how can i modify the subtitles for commands and postitive/negative shouts? is there a file in which the subtitles can be changed?
i just found the subtitles for the movies/in-game sequences, but not for the in-game speech...

id be REALLY happy if anyone could help me with this...
thanks

I?m affraid you can?t disable voice sounds only, if you disable sounds, then all sounds goes out.

And I once tried to change subtitles too, but no luck.

In other words, tough luck, since you can?t disable voices only (or you can, but you don?t want to try it, believe me) and I haven?t found myself the normal subtitle files. But keep trying for subtitles.

I will be messing around with some sound files later on for the deluxe2 mod. I played deluxe last night and wow does that sten gun sound like shite

We are talking about HD2, rite? I bought it from the USA...

I use a sound mod for weapons, including made by "us" MP/StG 43/44 and M1 Carbine sounds...

But the germans, in multiplayer speak english... LoL

Well Germans speaking German is tricky thing in H&D2; you can hear more simpler commands in H&D1 but in H&D2 when they are in combat, they often atleast alerts that they saw you, if they kill one of your men they say that they got one, and when you throw\when they throw grenade etc.

Funny but tricky :)

Yep, they speak German in SP, but everyone has a strong English accent in multiplayer. It's not that annoying, MP is hardly realistic anyway, just good fun.

They also shout 'Missed!' at you when you shoot at someone and don't hit them. Cheeky buggers.

I don't think H&D allows you to be realistic in MP. Trying to be realistic is good fun, but you inevitably get killed by regular players sidestepping at full speed while firing a BAR from the hip at you, or grabbing a contact grenade from their belt as they run, taking the pin out and chucking it at your feet in less than a second. The game mechanics are too unrealistic to make any attempt to play 'realistically' anything more than an aesthetic front.

Um, dont play with contact grenades...

And, firing the BAR from the hip isnt very unrealistic...

You knoe the BAR is oversized in this game?

And I cant still kill a sidestepping BAR monkey at close range with my carbine...

And if I miss my 1st shots anuther man in my unit doesnt...

It's not your choice about contact nades if it's not your server, and before you say it for the 10th time, although you play largely on your own server, most people play on large public servers which they have no control over.

Eh, so you're saying it's perfectly realistic to fire a BAR from the hip with 100% accuracy while running sideways. That was my point, not that you can fire a BAR from the hip, which is perfectly realistic, but that you can do this with the same accuracy when moving as you would have when stationary (and prone). I don't care if it's oversized in the game, you can't fire a peashooter with that accuracy while sidestepping in real life, and don't bother arguing otherwise.

Don't tell me you always defeat a side-stepping opponent with a BAR while you're sitting still using a Carbine. In H&D, if you stay still you stand a good chance of dying, regardless of you or your opponents weapons. Perhaps the effect of lag on combat is lessened for you since you're normally the admin with a ping of 0.

Your unit? Are we talking H&D or real war fantasies here?

Often I wonder if you're just argumentative for the sake of it.

LoL, your a funny little...

The point here is about playing realistically, and I was just defeating your argument...

You said its not possible to play realistically, so everything you brought up, I countered with my truth...

Yes, 0 ping helps...

But even on other servers, it only takes 1 or 2 rounds to kill sum1...

You just have to be fast and accurate...

And with anyweapon, you learn how to use it...

Just now I have fired a peasooter "sidestepping" just to proove you wrong and got all my hits within a half inch area...

My unit is my team, dont like to use the term clan...

Drozdov well I have seen a guy testing M1919A4 without tripod and shooting while moving sideways, and about 50% of the shots hit the target.

So firing BAR while running with decent accuracy is not impossible, but the question is: How far?

No-one ever mentioned was it Close-Quarter Battle or some open ground, so in CQB it is not impossible, but over 30m you can?t hit a shit.

But funny, a common question turned out to a realism arguement :)
