hi guys just found this forum few days ago...well i have set up my own server in house and i can join fine my son on lan can also join fine..but my mates who have game who try to join from internet have the problems..
they can see name of game fine map etc on list but when they go to join it comes up with connecting to client then says connection problems please see the readme..
my server so they say, is not greyed out and they have updated like me the hd 2 and ss to ver 1.12
so all vers the same...is this a bug or am i missing something here...also the server is set to port 27015 as my son often plays half life and that port is opened in router tcp and udp both ways...or does hd 2 not like that port? ive run out of ideas please help..

Look in the README like it says for the ports that need to be open...
Or just DMZ your server pc through your router...

And you have 27015 and 27016 open?
Try DMZing your pc...
Or just create a server from in game...
I dont use the server launcher...

thanks agn for replys
ok port wise i have 11001 11002 11003 11004 forwarded regards to 27015 my son has that forwarded for his half life 2 server on same machine that works fine..
ive tried using the ingame ded server but get same results..they can all see name server etc and map but cant connect...
its beaten me...on saying that we did get a game last night by using hamachi as an internet tunnel to lan that worked well..but i would prefer to get the server working cos hamachi is ok but does suffer from lag..
thanks agn guys for your thoughts

If I create a server I had to open ports 11001-11004 and than 27900+28900 so that others could see a serverinformation

Easy answer is to DMZ...
If you have your default port set to 27015 you must open 27016 aswell...

Just thinking out loud:
Have you tried running dxdiag & then the "Network" tab & running the tests. Is the windows firewall running? Have you tried bypassing your router & disabling your firewall for 10 minutes just to test to make sure it is not something to do with the game or your OS.

Re: running hd 2 ss server launcher v 1.12 connection problems
LoL...
When setting a port for HD2 to use you are telling it to use this port and the port that comes after it in addition...
You set one port for incomming and then it selects the other for outgoing packets...
If you have one blocked you will get nowhere...
Gamespy ports must be open if you want the best performance becuz your server will be communicating with gamespy to keep thier server list uptodate...

Hi Mastercare
Any luck I'm trying to do the same tried opening ports but no joy
I saw on another forum for Counter Strike that if you're on TalkTalk they hold some files back that stos you from creating your server. I don,t know if this is true and as yet hav,nt found anything else yet.
I,ve tried dissabling firewall and DMZ the router still no joy.
Regards Hepcat

Re: running hd 2 ss server launcher v 1.12 connection problems
I've had this to ... its probably because you're behind a router. Do the following and it will not crash anymore.
You have to make sure that your internal ip is a static ip adress and not one assigned by the dhcp from the router. Else hidden and dangerous 2 cant know for sure which ip-adress is used(it must be some bug in the software i guess.. it can only handle a static one not a assigned one). To setup an static internal ip in XP:
Setting Up a Static IP in Windows XP
1. Go to Start > Run and type in: cmd to open a command prompt.
2. Type into the command prompt: ipconfig/all.
You will see something similar to this:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : MYCOMP
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-80-F6-6A-21-E0
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled
3. Copy down:
* IP address
* Subnet mask
* Default gateway
* DNS Servers
4. Right-click on My network places and go to Properties.
5. Right-click on Local Area Connection and go to Properties.
6. Select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click on the Properties button.
7. Select the "Use the following IP address" option and fill in the fields with the respective information you copied out of your IPConfig.
8. Click OK and exit the network connection page.
Test your internet connection to ensure that you are still able to access the internet. If not, you probably mistyped one of the fields from the IPconfig. Double-check their values. If you need to get back to the internet immediately, you can do so by going back to your TCP/IP properties and selecting Obtain an IP address automatically.
Dont forget to forward the ports for hidden and dangerous on your router. (11001 tcp / 1004 tcp)
good luck,
