Surrender / Cowards List
Surrender / Cowards List
Is there a surrender / cowards list for SS?
I know a thread has been posted on "how" you can make soldiers surrender but I'm interested in a list of soldiers who are more prone to surrender.
This is a list which covers H&D2 original named "I Surrender" still up at the old "Unofficial H&D2 website" on freewebs. http://www.freewebs.com/hnd2/cowards.htm
I've had a few surrenders in H&D2 but can only think of two in SS.
***SPOILER***
SS C1M1 Deadfish:
The other night I got a German to surrender in the gatehouse near the fuel tanks / generator room area. Unfortunately, he was dead before I was able to capture him as one of my troopers was a bit over-zealous, or just possibly jealous, and cut him down as he was in the line of fire of another enemy. I was so pissed I left him out in the rain by himself so he could think about his lack of trigger control.
This was in H&D2 SS Campaign.
SS C3M1 Chestnut:
I once got, and only once, an Italian at the furthest FLAK 88 to surrender.
This was in Single Mission - Carnage.
Thanks and Happy gaming ...

Not that I know of, according to some members you can get all soldiers to surrender. Others are just more likely, but I don't believe that myselfIs there a surrender / cowards list for SS?

I don't think you play enough... It is true, every enemy will surrender, all you need to do is get them to drop their weapon, either by shooting it out of there hand or scaring the shit out of them. Next you have to make sure you make them believe they have no chance of escaping or they will run. For instance if they are close to their line or did not witness you kill all their friends.
There are some that are more likely to surrender. For instance there are two men on Alps 1, the driver with the objective, and one guy in the trees to the South of the position with the MG 42s. Another that seems to surrender all the time is on Sicily 2, in coop at least, across the bridge right in the beginning, on the right side of the bridge, the guy that climbs out of that broken wall. Unfortunately most players are fucking blind and don't pay attention to detail, and he is usually shot.

I guess anything is possible since a few Japanese soldiers actually did surrender during the Pacific War.Jason wrote:Not that I know of, according to some members you can get all soldiers to surrender. I know most of you hard-core guys play CO-OP while I do SP. There must be AI differences since -ViTaMiHnM203- states (see below) you can get them all to surrender in CO-OP. The Prima guide, made for the SP campaign, states the SS and Japanese troops will never surrender due to high morale, whereas the Italians are more apt to surrender.
While you couldn't make the enemy surrender, I remember playing another game that included conscripts in the mix so their combat quality was lower than regular Heer or seasoned vets.

I agree watching your mates get waxed in front of you is a big morale killer. It would definitely ruin my day.-ViTaMiHnM203- wrote: It is true, every enemy will surrender, all you need to do is get them to drop their weapon, either by shooting it out of there hand or scaring the shit out of them. Yeah, both those guys are listed on the H&D2 Cowards list; though I haven't tried the guy at the tree. ***SPOILER*** I also get one of the painters in Arctic 2 (Scout) and a drunken soldier in Czech1 (Billable Entry).-ViTaMiHnM203- wrote: There are some that are more likely to surrender. I'll have to check that out in SP. Cheers.-ViTaMiHnM203- wrote: Another that seems to surrender all the time is on Sicily 2, in coop at least, across the bridge right ion the beginning, on the right side of the bridge, the guy that climbs out of that broken wall.

...and? Prima guides are notorious for having false and outdated information.Duke0196 wrote:The Prima guide, made for the SP campaign, states the SS and Japanese troops will never surrender due to high morale, whereas the Italians are more apt to surrender.
I meant Jason.Duke0196 wrote:Not enough time in a day mate.
I was just giving an example as to where the AI is set to surrender by default.Duke0196 wrote:Yeah, both those guys are listed on the H&D2 Cowards list; though I haven't tried the guy at the tree. ***SPOILER*** I also get one of the painters in Arctic 2 (Scout) and a drunken soldier in Czech1 (Billable Entry).

That's the way it is with any published guide. Any game changes, whether last minute before gold or via patches or expansions after going gold, will throw some of the published data askew.-ViTaMiHnM203- wrote: Prima guides are notorious for having false and outdated information.

For the outdated, sure, but for the false information, it is just bad writing, and Prima is the best at this.

I found ONE Jap who surrenders.
He is one of the three at the end of the fallen tree bridge.
He has a pistol, and you must scare him.
He should commit seppuku.

Awesome, thanks! This is one of the levels I think about most replaying. I'll have to keep this in mind the next time I play.Myron wrote:I found ONE Jap who surrenders.

How you are able to blend in without getting facially recognized is really beyond me.Jason wrote:Awesome, thanks! This is one of the levels I think about most replaying. I'll have to keep this in mind the next time I play.Myron wrote:I found ONE Jap who surrenders.

P.S. Taking an MP40 that was available from the start menu will not hurt your disguise.

Re: Surrender / Cowards List
Strangely, I have NEVER been able to get a kraut with a white shirt and tie to surrender.
