Forum Registration Change
I have made a change to the forum registration, new users will need to be activated by me. I'm tired of all the spam users clogging up the place. Not much activity around here from new users any way. Figure anyone that really wants to get in can wait a few hours. I'm always online and always checking the forums these days so yeah, shouldn't be a problem.
[Edit] And we just past 8 years of these forums being active, yay! That's excluding the days of the Exposed and Disarmed forums though, which was 2003. And of course I was with Greenie at the Hidden and Dangerous .co .uk website before that.

Re: Forum Registration Change
Can you see how many users haven't visited the site, let's say for one year?
Or maybe it's easier the other way round..

Re: Forum Registration Change
Do you mean out of the registered users? Not easily... I could find that out though if I wanted. We could be due for a mass spam "come back to the forums" message
So many users to sort through already
damn bots
[Edit] LOL, I have a custom field that is required on the register form that asks why you want to join and one of the smart little bots fills it in... GRRR, damn that is smart

Thanks for doing your best to keep us SPAM free.
I may not always log in but I swing by to check on what's new. Cheers.

Re: Forum Registration Change
Since we're using ReCaptcha on our site we have no problems anymore with spam bots.
But probably we're just not getting attacked anymore..
Maybe an API Key of http://www.stopforumspam.com or a similar service could be helpful too.

Re: Forum Registration Change
Yeah ReCaptcha is good. I've changed a few settings and now there are no dodgy sign ups
If it's all good after a week I'll turn back on the auto sign up.

Re: Forum Registration Change
Good work. I haven't seen any spam here so you must have been very busy fighting against it.
Yeah and I also still come here to look for the new postings now and then. Maybe not so often anymore but still.
But
Doesn't time really fly a bit too fast? I mean 8 years!!!

Re: Forum Registration Change
Had to post another one because memories just filled my mind.
Do you remember the time at Fugue's forum before this one? That was between 2000-2004 I think. The developers actually came to the forums to discuss with us.
Ah, and now I feel old

Re: Forum Registration Change
Plenty of old forums. The first was talonsoft's forum where a few of us hung out. Then it basically moved out to the community forums which was Mack & Fugues website and Greenie's. I don't remember if the H&D emporium had a forum or not. H&D Fanatic did have some forums for a little bit too. Lots of history in our community, best gaming community out there
