So where's the new forum Jason!?
I've been busy, busy working... really, seriously  Last month and this month have been crazy! but it will settle down over the next couple of weeks. Need to work hard to pay Tax fingers01

My priority list is:
  • 1) Forum switch to phpBB, eta 29 August - 4 September
  • 2) New website, eta 4 - 18 September(this actually won't take long as I will be using an open source CMS I work with ALL the time so this will actually take bugger all time, 6 years in the making no_02)
  • 3) Flash mini-game, eta help01
There you go, for the first time ever in 6 years I give you some dates. Some of you may have a heart attack when I actually do the work. Might even give myself one out of shock funny01

Any way, back to work... deadlines, clients etc etc.

The forum switch will happen today or tomorrow sometime. The forums won't be down for long, hopefully not much more than an hour.

And sorry for the downtime lately my webhost has become rather shit. I'll be looking to change webhosts with-in the next 3 months but we'll see how it goes. Let me know if you notice the forums are down often.

[edit]
Alright too tired at the moment to do it but will do it... tomorrow, Tuesday morning... in about 12-20 hours? thup01

You'll probably need to update your password and timezone, sorry about that.

You can add images, files and embed videos etc. have fun thup01

Well done Jason. Looks great!
Hopefully spawn spam  attacks are history by now.

But every post has to be approved by a moderator before it's getting published? Maybe that's a setting you could change.

Sorry about that, permissions are setup correctly now (I think). Sadly the new board has already been attacked by spammers angry01

Now that was fast. You tried reCAPTCHA? Maybe StopForumSpam or Botscout could be helpful too.

Glad to hear it, the forum software completely changed so all previous issues should be resolved. New ones may come up though but from what I have seen and heard phpBB3 is pretty good. I seemed to have sorted the spam bot issue for now as well, just added a custom form field to the sign up process, no need for any mods. Couple of styling issues I'd like to resolve as well.

The file attachment upload limits are:
16 mbs for one upload, you can attach 3 per post. If you need more space let me know.
2 mbs for private messages and you can only add one.

Now to start on the website! I'll probably get the basics of the website up rather quickly but adding content will take a while. I've missed adding a lot of downloads over the years  there is so much back logged.

I noticed one big difference ... at least, for me. You can no longer see the recent posts without logging in.

Under the old setup, I could do a quick check and see the recent posts without logging in. Posts were shown for all forums (i.e., General Discussion, H&D Classic, H&D2, etc).

Currently, you have to log-in to see the recent / new posts.

- Without logging-in ... there are two options ... "View unanswered posts" and "View active topics."
-- View unanswered posts: Comes back with 146 matches (at the time of writing this).
-- View active topics: Comes back with "No suitable matches were found" even if you request "All results." It will, however, provide a list if you tell it to "jump to" a specific forum (i.e., General Discussion, etc.).

- Logging-in ... there are the above two options plus "View unread posts" plus "View new posts."
-- View unanswered posts: Same as above
-- View unread posts: As stated - able to see what I haven't previously viewed
-- View new posts: Essentially the "recent posts" capability I mentioned above.
-- View active topics: Same as above

I do not know if this is a "new" security aspect but I'm all for security on our board. I am a member of a Spanish forum which is similar in concept. While it will let you see the recent "Topic" without logging-in ... you must log-in to actually see the posts. Links provided as examples ...

Interesting, the other board you visit uses a MOD called Portal XL which has a whole bunch of interesting functionality. I'll have a play with it on my local machine to see what it all does
