Forum Software switch again, back to phpBB

Unread post by Jason » Thu Jun 23, 2011 1:31 pm

I'll be doing some tests later today with switching the forums to phpBB3. SMF is just not doing it's job any more. Everytime I try to improve them it doesn't work out well. There are countless issues with this forum software so hopefully I can have them upgraded sooner rather than later.

I'll be adding the ability to attach files and embed youtube videos (well overdue!)

If there is any new features you want, post them here.

I have successfully been able to convert the SMF board to phpBB3. I'll be creating a new theme as close to this as I can. The attachments and embedding of youtube videos works well (by default).

Start waving goodbye to these SMF forums they won't be here for much longer.  Hopefully the new forums won't be attacked as hard by spam as well.

I might merge the Modding & Editing topics into the Classic and H&D2 boards, bit of a mix and match. Might as well merge the Game Bugs topic into the H&D2 Technical Support topic also. Any objections?

Eh, well, I'm having problems again. When I log in, I get a blank screen and have to refresh.

I think you should leave Game Bugs where it is, but all the Modding & Editing should be integrated.

Jason:  Agree "Game Bugs" is better off on its own but if you really want to combine them ... you might title it "Technical Support / Game Bugs" to make them easier to find.

On another note, no problems so far after the switch.  I've always had the same 'blank screen and then need to refresh issue" but its been that way ever since I joined the Board.  I just figured it had something to do with the way I had my Firefox set up with extensions, etc.

I haven't switched over yet, there will be a significant difference when I do. It's concerning there's a login issue, I've never got it before

lol, I have to agree I like the colours because they are the colours of H&D2 - would you like a H&D1 style? which would be black? Blue is a bit standard IMO

index.php/topic,2034.msg10914.html#msg10914
and emded the youtube videos so i can see how to do it?

The two methods i found on Google don't seem to work.  Or could anyone else post an example?

Edit: Opps nevermind, I should really just read the thread next time :)

Gotcha, not switched over yet.  As for the login issue, its no major dramas.  I just need to reload the page.  I just checked if it might have been my refreshblocker extension but nope.  Bugger me if I can figure it out.  Oh and speaking of blank screens.  I also get a blank screen when I logout; but again ... its no major dramas since I've logged out.
