Roads:
The best way I've found to make roads is that you make a box object that is very very long and width is about twice the width of a Opel Blitz. The box object must consist of 3 width segments and divide the the length with 10 and you'll get length segments. For example you have box with length 800 and width something. The box should have 80 length segments and 3 width segments.
Apply edit mesh to the box and twist the road the way you like. Why I made 3 segments. Well, now that you have 3 segments, the middle segment is the road and the segments in both sides are the banks. You can make a whole lot smoothier texture, when the banks for the road are separate. The correct texture for the bank is half road and half the surrounding texture.
Finish the road by detaching all the segments as separate objects. Apply textures and there it is.
If you have a situation, that you have already formed the entire landscape and you can't make a separate road, you have two options.
- Clone the road you made and before you cut it use boolean to cut the landscape with the other and then put the other clone in place
- Apply edit mesh to landscape. Cut the segments from the location that the road is placed. Form the road and when its done, detach the road segments and apply textures.
