C1M3 - Free the Pilots - Aiming and using the Orange Box
C1M3 - Free the Pilots - Aiming and using the Orange Box
In the walkthrough I downloaded from the internet, it said "Use your regular view so the Orange box comes up, etc." Nothing comes up for me and I would appreciate knowing how to access this function. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I have never heard about "orange box", you sure the guide is 100% accurate?
Sounds rather fishy to me.

I don't know how accurate it is. Was put out by someone called Professor Revolution, 2/1/2001. I have played through 1 campaigns and up to this mission in Campaign 2; and everything he says works.
I do seem to remember in the first mission of the game that at the end of the beam that emanated from the weapon, a red dot appeared when it touched an enemy.
Thanks Oldih, you are always there to help and I appreciate it.

You mean using that while in 1st\3rd person you have that additional crosshair in?
That would explain it.

Is it a DC-V guide?
Eight, 8, the burning eight; between Sunday and Monday exists a day so great, it will devastate.

If you are referring to the "guide" I found on the internet; it's an old walkthrough from a Professor Revolution, dated 1/2/01 and up til' now the guide works very well. If you are referring to something else, please clarify. Thanks.

I thought I sent an answer but don't see it posted - so here it is again. I'm not sure what you mean about 1st-3rd person view with respect to the crosshair. What I think I saw in C1M1 was the beam emanating from the soldier's weapon with the tip showing red when it touched upon an enemy soldier. Does this sound right to you? Maybe I'm wrong but it sticks in my mind. Later today I'll try to check it out and will bet back to you. Thanks for your continuing assistance Oldih.

You and Oldih are right. I do have the cross hairs, etc., but can't figure out what the writer of the walkthrough meant by "the orange box". Thanks again for the help.

The orange box is sumthing in your tactical map that helps you spot enemies I suppose...

The only map I get in H&D Deluxe does not contain a tactical map like H&D2. I'll keep looking. All the best.

I think this 'Orange Box' thing is a DreamCast feature. Look at the top of the Walkthrough, it's for the DreamCast console version. So this must have been a feature they introduced for consoles to make it easier to target without a mouse. It certainly wasn't in the original PC version, nor is it in Deluxe.
It does have a tactical map, but it's a 2D map, not 3D, and enemies you spot don't always appear on it, but they do sometimes and are represented by a red circle if they're alive, and a red/black circle if they're dead. It's not as reliable as the H&D 2 tactical map, and needs a bit of patience to use. Good for moving all your squad over a long distance, but the pathfinding is bizarre at times, and it gives your soldiers crazy zigzagging paths to follow. You can get around that by putting several short movement commands in a sequence. Generally, it's not good to let the AI control your men - they'll do all sorts of crazy things.
