Immediate black screen

Hey, so I just got the game and I really want to play it, but every time I go from the initial settings menu to begin the game it goes immediately to a black screen that is very hard to get out of. I've played other games on the computer so not sure its a graphics driver problem. Anyone else have this problem or have any advice? Even when I try safe mode or changing the settings I get the same result every time.

Hrmmm, What graphics card do you have and which driver? I'm suprised Safe mode didn't work at all.

For reference: (I know this guy is long gone)
I just downloaded HDD on my system and got this. No apparent cause. I had to enter to standby blind a couple of times to get my screen back. Rebooted, no change. The solution is in settings.
Enable compressed textures. Then the game will load.
Then, you can quit the game and select whatever options you want, and it will mysteriously work (or at least that was my experience).
