Any tips getting the assassination fanmission to run?

Unread post by Private Dancer » Wed Apr 04, 2012 4:31 pm

Hello chaps, Private Dancer here reporting for duty, long time H & D fan first time poster. I've really enjoyed the Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe fan missions on this site, but am having trouble getting the Assassination mission to run. It crashes to the desktop as soon as the weapons selection is finished, and the mission proper loads. All the other fan missions I've tried work, as well as the normal missions.

It looks to be a cracker and uses my favourite map of the game, so any recommendations would be smashing!

Since I made the map I had better help ;), was there any error information? what version of Windows are you using? can't believe I made it 8 years ago :shock:

You could try starting H&D Deluxe in safe mode, can access that from the start menu.

[UPDATE] just got a crash myself :cry: on Windows 7

Wow, you wrote it? There's a spot of luck! I'm using XP pro (legit), all the most recent updates.

Here's the error message in non-safe mode:
Machine: THINKCEN-0B3C95
Date: 4-4-2012 17:46
Address: 1b:00000002, Exception code: c0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION)
Registers:
eax = 00000000, ebx = 03190260, ecx = 0012fd9c, edx = c2a517d8
esi = 03cde4c0, edi = 00c6a850, ebp = 004ecef8, esp = 00c1d958

Execution path:
Module: hde.exe
void C_game_mission::Tick(struct S_tick_context const &), offset 0x548
unsigned long C_enemy::Tick(struct S_tick_context const &), offset 0xa08
void C_human::ProcessProgram(struct S_tick_context const &), offset 0x1086

I will try the safe mode and report back!

Hmm, I must have junked the icon when I reorganised H & D to the games folder. What's the switches for safe mode on the shortcut?

Okay, I have replaced the file online, try downloading it again: http://www.hidden-and-dangerous.net/deluxe/missions.php

It's the same version from: http://www.hidden-and-dangerous.de/down ... ile_id=137

How embarrassing not having my own file working on my website, for HOW many years! :shock: :oops:

Thanks a million, I'm really looking forward to this mission.

I just had a quick go... this should have been in the read me, you'll need to create an explosion (using elements in the map) to get the German Officer to come out of his hiding place. Bit of a hardcore/cruel map I made back in the day... really need to make another.

Well, I like a challenge! For a laugh, I've revisited a few missions starting out with a pistol each, or 2 men with pistols, and two using that "3 shots before a kill" rifle with the open sights thup01
