The reason why is my brother and I are HD2 addicts. He built a dual core opteron rig a while back with an ati 1950xt and when he ran the game with the latest patch everything was running at super speed. Now I built the following rig:
CPU : Intel QX9650
Case : CoolerMaster Stacker 832
Memory : Crucial Ballistix DDR2 8500 @ 4 gigs
Hard drives : 2 x 150 gig Raptors
Motherboard : Asus Striker Extreme
Video cards : 2 x EVGA Nvidia 8800 GTX Ultras
Sound card : Creative Labs X-Fi Elite Pro

It would truly suck if I could not play HD2 on that machine. Thanks for any posts.

hd2 should run with a cpu > 2.5 ghz and 1 gig ram pretty smooth
I hope you will use a 64bit OS if you use 4 gig

I am going to be running a 64 bit OS. 64 bit XP in fact. All nLited tweaked and ready to go with raid 0. But like I said my brothers AMD dual core had the game running in warp speed for some reason and so he is pretty sad about it. I am wondering if it will do the same for me. That would really suck! 

As I remember AMD´s DC´s has always needed an Dualcoreoptimizer prog. Maybe that was the problem. Or, in my case with an SC AMD64, I had to turn off in some Unrealengine games the c'n'q feature to get games runing at normal speed

Hmm thanks for the suggestion. I will ask my brother to try it out. I think he does have the dual core optimizer. Not sure about the Cool and Quiet.

Its overkill but it runs great, 4x AA and 16x AF.
I think H&D2 looks pretty good for an older game, so does Mafia .
