HD2 Crash to desktop

Unread post by Ivegottheskill » Mon Jul 17, 2006 5:26 am

Does anyone else get a crash now and then with an error in ls3df.dll??

Its a HD2 file, apparently associated with graphics:

I think I have the latest nvidia drivers and directx, but I will check. I run the game at max resolution, detail and 4x antialiasing

The best & most reliable nvidia drivers are the 71.xx. New is not always better.

I'll remember that if I come across trouble with other games.

I upgraded from 81.xx to 91.xx drivers, and made sure I had the latest DirectX pack (June 06). Touch wood, I haven't had a problem yet  thup01

Looks like touching wood didn't help. I started getting a weird, random gamma flicker with my graphics card (GeForce FX5700). Not in the game, but everywhere

I'm still not completely sure if its the card playing up (its done some weird things before), but I went back to 77.77 drivers:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.77.html

The flicker has disappeared.

This time I really will touch wood

Next time I format, I'll give the newest drivers a go again, but if it fooks up, back to 77.77

I only update to newest stuff because they add important support sometimes, like "Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0c and OpenGL® 2.0 support"

EDIT - Maybe my card is going, the flicker returned :(

EDIT 2 (One year on) - It was my graphics card playing up. For anyone still using a GeForce FX series, 77.77 are the best drivers I've found.

My card was overheating I think. I unscrewed a protective mesh covering the fan on the GPU and it works fine now. My gfx card must be ~5 years old by now, still going well (bar that glitch a year ago).

Also, if running NOD32, add HD2 and HD2SS exe files to the exclusions list for "IMON"
