The first mission is suppose to be dark

The rest are daylight pretty much. If you uploaded a screenshot or sent me a screenshot to my email I could tell you if its too dark or not.
You can go to Setup in the main menu of H&D2, then go to video setup then up the top it has the gamma controls.
Although you should have settings on your monitor if all else fails.

Well....if u've difficulties only with and while playing the game then the only option avaliable (as far I know) is the 1 in the video setup.

No only in the H&D2 setup menu, have you tried it in the setup menu?

I am sure it's uses direct3d like the original but have you tried playing with the settings in the setup.exe? Try reading the read me for Sabre Squadron.
