Win 7 (64 bit)

Unread post by Jakkals » Fri Jul 20, 2012 8:03 pm

Unfortunately I had to upgrade my trusty old gaming machine - the Intel 925 chipset board just stopped - mission accomplished, job done, goodbye. Re-fitted the Coolermaster case with a Z77 chipset Asus board, Core i7 3770K processor (Ivy bridge) and some fancy bits and pieces. It all looks rather flashy and fast, but now I cannot get my H&D 2 and SS games to run. They install fine, the updates runs smoothly - but when I press the trigger on the starter-gun nothing happens.

Has anybody succeeded in playing H&D 2 in Win7 64-bit, or must I rather get myself Win 7 32-bit? If anybody knows of a work-around please let me know - quite desperate on this end.

I've had no problems with W7-64 bit laptop with i7 processor but I only play SP. I have both H&D2 & SS.

:?: I'm pulling at straws but did you try remapping your controls to see if you could fire that way?

Ha! That's encouraging. I should be more clear. The game is not loading at all. I think I am going to re-install completely. Thanks for the prompt reply.

Re-installed completely, ran the compatibility fixing program, but no-success. This is heartbreaking, But I am willing to do a clean install of the 32-bit version of Win 7, if that will fix my game.

Jakkals ... okay, I have a better idea of your situation.

Before trying a W7/32-bit install ... try baby stepping as a process of elimination.

Okay, I am not assuming anything so bear with me if you've already done or are doing some of these.

- Run the game as administrator
- Run Windows XP compatibility.
- Disable visual themes
[Many legacy games have issues with the Aero design which is default in W7.]

If that didn't work install H&D2 by itself to see if you can get 'er running first. If that goes well, then add the H&D2 SS expansion. Once you verify that is okay then you can add any patches you might want.

Other things to consider.
- How are your discs? Could be scratched? I use a no-CD patch to lessen wear and tear.
- How about drivers? I know many legacy games sometimes have issues with drivers.
- Game directory. Some gamers have also have luck putting legacy games into their own directory, or a master directory of older games, rather than the letting Windows place it into the Program Files (x86) directory.

Just thoughts but anything has to be better than a full blown W7/32-bit install.

Hope this helps. thup01

Thank you very much, will do it that way. The specs are as follows:

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z77
Processor: Core i7 - 3770K (Ivy Bridge)
Ram: 32Gb (2 x 16Gb dual channel sets) Corsair Dominator Platinum (CMD16GX3M4A2666C10)
Graphics: Asus ENGtx 570.

I have burned iso images of my disks long time ago, for the reasons you have stated. I tried to install from both the original disks and the iso images, with the same results.

Will run the baby stepping as suggested, and let you know.

Thank you once again for the support.

I have been playing H&D2 on my new win 7 machine and until a couple of days ago it worked fine (with a few minor exceptions....it may kick me back to windows a few times while initally loading...which is not a big deal). A couple of days ago I somehow lost the ability to load the list of games in the multiplayer internet screen. I initially thought my provider may have made changes to my security program but my old Call of Duty is still able to find games on the internet.???????

bandslak ... hopefully the short solution posted by Marvin (hun) in your "Multiplayer Access To Games" thread got you going again. http://www.rsredsquadron.com/e107_plugi ... .php?22419
