Hello lads,

I'm with PMOH and we have been a Spearhead Guild (clan) for over 2 years. But now that Spearhead is getting a bit tired we have decided to host some different games on our server. One we have chosen is H&D2 SS which several of our members have recommended. The problem is that we can't find any decent source of info on running a server. And after searching the whole internet, this forum seems to be where the action is in regards to this game.

Do any of you know if it's possible to run the game as a service on the server instead of using just DOS? And if you do, or you know where to find the info, could you point us in the right direction?

Is it correct that I understand you that you want to run the server with linux?

Sorry, no. We have Windows 2003 on our server. We're currently running SH and Counter Strike Source but we'll turn one of those off when we get H&D2 SS running.

Here is what our server guru told me.

Getting the server executable to run as a service is easy. Getting it to run correctly is the problem.

I am currently running it as a service using -cmd -exec objective.cfg as the run parameters, but it doesn't work. The big problem is the documentation on command line usage spans about 10 lines of text, and most of the forums I have visited or people I have talked to run local servers using the GUI server launcher tool. That's fine for local instances, but doesn't work for dedicated servers.

Ah ok. Well than I can?t help much .. maybe your guru should have a look at this severtool http://217.133.41.41/vwar/downloads.php might be that this will help him. As far as I know its written for the standalone server version but also works with the ds file

i cant run a server

but ive been reading through different forums

from what ive read you need to open ports 11001 to 11010 tcp and ucp for the game
and for directX8, ports 2302 to 2400 tcp and ucp, and port 6073 ucp

ive tried all this and it still wont let me run server (people cant see it on server list)

youre not the only one having problems, it seems there are lots of us that cant host game

is it something extra or is it essential to the game

But even with my new pc now and exact the same settings I can?t creat atm an server :?

i emailed TAKE2, and asked what ports it needs to host a game, and they say

Ok I can host again I only have to share my internetconnection to get it working again

I'm having the same sort of problem. I've now opened all the Ports on my router and firewalls but it still doesn't work.

Lars - How do you share your internet connection and does it fix the problem when hosting internet servers or are you talking about LAN servers??
