Wierd crash problem

Unread post by Daniel » Sun Oct 07, 2007 2:46 pm

I got booted from some server (they were booting everyone for some reason - some power hungry clan or something) and now, whenever I click on the "multiplayer internet" button on the main menu, it crashes the game.

Is there any way to fix this? Or will I have to do a full reinstall :(?

I've got a similar problem, but it was when i tried to get into a password protected game with the old password, it rejected it twice and now when i click on the "multiplayer game - internet" button, it crashs back to the desktop. I've reinstalled both H&D2 & H&D2 SS twice including all the patches and its still doing it!  angry01 angry01

Check in your hd2 directory at the profiles an filename called serverlist.bin. Delete it and it should be working again

lol! i just logged in to say the same thing  i had to delete that file about 3 or 4 times last night, i.e. each time i went into the multiplayer bit, but i've gone in and out a few times now and it seems to be ok now.

(won't mention that i reinstalled twice before that........)

Yeah, this is a fairly common issue; should probably make this thread a sticky.

Argh, I am having to delete the file every time I try to join a server now :( What is causing this problem /  is there a more permanent fix?

Yer, everyone is having the problem - I would guess that either the server which you get the server list from is having a problem or that on of the wreckers/glitchers has created a server name that somehow breaks it for everyone.

Got that tip from our forum:
Create an empty textfile named ServerList.bin in your profile folder and set it up to write protected.
Than it should working again

this worked for me...

Go to your HD2 directory /Player Profiles and there should be a
file called "Serverlist.bin" ...  open it in TXT format and delete
everything inside and save it.  Then open it´s properties and select the box
named "Read- only" , and save

I was just about to say this myself yer - I thought it would work and was pleasantly suprised when I found it did :) You don't actually store a server list now, but big deal :P
