Proper etiquette?

Hey everyone,

I'm new to HnD2:SS (been playing about two months) and I'm new to playing over the internet and I've been wondering what exactly is the proper etiquette for joining existing games.  I've noticed that most of the servers out there seem to be connected with one clan or another and I don't really want to tick anyone off by joining something that is members only.

Right now I usually only get on DeathMatches that have no one else playing and wait to see if anyone else will join (which can be a long and boring process. sleep01)  And with my limited skills in most DeathMatches I just feel like a lamb for the slaughter .  (Got to learn someway though)

So I guess what I'm really asking is if its not password protected, is it ok to join a game?  Assuming that I can with all the extra maps and scenarios out there.  What about if it's an occupation or objective?  Should I check game info to try and guess (by # of kills) how far along they are or by the names to see if it looks strictly clan oriented before I attempt to join?

I don't think my playing style would be offensive to anyone, although I do tend to slide into 'sniper' mode at times (as I've seen it described in some of the other threads.) But, with limited skills sometimes you do what you can so your not spending all your time in the respawning.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can take the time to answer.

I personally think you wasted your time coming on here; if it is not locked, yes its a public server, go ahead and join. If they don't like you they will kick you, so what? Eventually you will find a nice server with people you like and be welcomed there. The people that you are worried about offending are assholes anyway and would not show you the same courtesy.

I usually run coop and obj, but I have a hard time getting people to stay; "normal" people don't like to loose. If you have msn messanger, you can hit me up on that whenever and if I'm doing nothing I would be glad to start up a server so we can play.
