major firewall issue ???

Unread post by capthavoc » Sun Jul 17, 2005 7:00 pm

Nope i haven't got that one installed :( i knew that would be to easy)

but i did fiddle around a bit but found it's hard to uninstal the updates i seem to screw up other program 2 or risk that

so here is my work around until better solution is available

1 start up gamespy
(you need a program of this kind to check if youre online with the name of the server )

2start up HD and create a server
(you need to do this otherwise the ports you need to change wil not be listen in xp firewal exceptions )

Be sure to have youre netcard icon in the takbar for convience

Check gamespy (or other ) if youre online (youre not )

3 right click network icon an go for setting of the firewall
(i have dutch xp zo i cannot give you the name but you find it)

go to advanced
lan connection
Settings

check if those ports are listed called hd 2 or hd saber or some like that
and you wil see them.
go for the middle tab at bodem called redo or some like that
and you wil see
255.255.255.255
change that into youre ipadres of that moment (www.whatismyip.com)
and do that for all 4 ports 11001 11002 11003 11004

Close these windows when you change all to ip
and go to HD and close down the server but do not shut the game down

Recreate a server and when asked to open up the ports click NO

(you manuallly open then already a yes would reset then)

Check in gamespy if youre game is up, it should be

have fun

Remember,
even when you close down a server you can create a new one
als long as you do not close the game or the computer
you have do it al over again when your restart or reboot.

Hope this works for ya

i have cable connection modem witn NO router
sofare i have no solution for that

any body else perhaps ???

zonelab is even worse

Unread post by capthavoc » Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:16 am

ok l tried zonelab and xp firewal disabled
for a while it looked promising
althouht it took a lot off tweaking
it was all in the framework of the program.

i was able to host and it was even listed in gamespy but nobody joined or was able to join ??
and both HD regular and hd sabre
didn,t react good to a ful restart of the game with zonelab on
both exe ended in error report to microsoft.
this happened to xp firewall aswel, but not on this regular base, as with zonelab.

Wel mayby zonelab off ? in the hope it would leave the ports open
since xp firewall was not active from the start.
Server was created fine when say no ot xp firewall in game
but it was not listed in gamespy.

:(

Zo zonelab is a write off right now

isn,t there a simple program that can manual configure my ports so they just stay open ?

Both zonelab and xp firewall keep the ports closed at all times
or reset after manually opening the ports.
i noticed i couldn't join other servers after i hosted a manually tweaked game.
not sure about that, my fault probably
but i couldn't find any server in HD i could palyt on as client
after this tweaking of the other day
I don,t like to have to reinstall my game everytime
I do a manual tweaking of those ports.

Hopefully some one else has the right solution in short while

i stil don know where the real prob is

gamespy seem ok
even the firewall reacts normally i.m.o and is willing to except the manual changes in the correct manor
zonelab pro is not good with this
xp firewall is better
even the reset evertime is a good feature

my suspect is stil a windows update(s) or atleast it,s affect on
hd2.exe hd2 sabre.exe and hd 1.12 patch
these are all affected by the updates.
atleast i get a warning that some progams wil not function properly
if i uninstall the latest patches.
(more then only hd 2 is affected)
I'am reluctant to uninstall the windows upgrades for this reason
so i got a new suspect aswell
at least the 1.12 patch seem to be not up to it
and downgrading to 1.11 seem a crime to me
The firewal can be turned off i can downgrade to sp 1 and use zonelab perhaps
but that block wil future updates of xp
gamespy seem to be the unlucky 3 party here and has no fault in it self
and even older games then HD work just fine

So that leave HD2 itself

Whe need a new patch guys
mayby other ports to play on !!!!
or at least the 255.255.255.255 changed into a better option
or some form of fix

LoL

CALL TECH SUPPORT FOR ZONEALARM!!!!!!!!!

255.255.255.255 isnt a port....

Sp1 is still supported and you still get updates for it....

i know, but after a reset it always turns back to that setting

i can only change it manually and only in the period of one reboot
after a restart game or reboot everything is back to what is was
the port wil not stay fixed in there
unlike other ports so something is messed up here

Yeh, I try to tell every1 that you shouldnt install SP2 unless you are prepared to start fresh.
