THE ORIGINAL POW RULES EXPLAINED + MP PASSWORD!!!

This is for general discussion about Hidden & Dangerous 2, talk about what you liked or what you didn't like about the sequel. Talk about multiplayer games, setup matches etc.

I often host games with POW rules, were everyone can surrender and become a prisoner of the enemy, good fun and it adds realism too.
Crusti made a nice map for it.
Still would be cool if someone could find out how we can make the soldiers in multiplayer put up their hands!

THE ORIGINAL POW RULES EXPLAINED + MP PASSWORD!!!

Unread post by frauhelga » Sat Mar 12, 2005 11:35 pm

well allright then!

POW RULES:

-EVERY soldier can surrender, do this when you would surrender in real combat, for instance when your wounded, out-gunned, surrounded or out of ammo.
-The aim of the game is to take prisoners, not flags.
Use flags only to create spawnpoints if needed.

-One surrenders by dropping your weapon and shouting "HOLD FIRE", keypad; 0-2-2
-If you see a soldier surrendering you cannot shoot him.
-You can order the soldier to follow you, stand still, etc, again by using your keypad commandos.
-Once you feel secure enough (no enemy around) you can order the enemy to drop his weapons, with most uniforms you can see if they are carrying anything besides the gun they dropped, some have a knife or pistol too, dont forget the grenades!
-Once you think your POW is harmless you order him to follow you, you escort him to a save location, usually a building or room with only one door you can easily guard.
-You now have a POW locked up, you can try to get information out of him, have a friendly chat, try eachothers hats, or simply ignore his crying and stand guard outside.
-The enemy will try and rescue the pow, so be aware!
-Once one side has ALL the enemy taken prisoner...they win and as a little bonus they can set up a firing squad and shoot them all at once

So what to do when your a pow?
-Follow the orders of whoever is pointing a gun at you...you dont want to die!
-Try and make the enemy believe you dont carry a knife or a pistol...but dont push your luck!
-As a pow its your DUTY to try and escape, so are you badly guarded...run! Is your guard distracted...run! Can you climb out of a window...run!
-Escaping is dangerous and tricky, afterall even if your succeed you'll end up behind enemy lines without a gun unless you find one.
-Tell your mates your a pow and need help, you can tell them about your location, how many guards you have, where they are standing, etc. But that isnt really realistic and thus fair, so I leave it up to you.
-Act realisticaly, beg for your live, bribe, be scared, fall to ground when there is shooting going on, etc.
-Roleplaying is half the fun!
-Be afraid, very afraid if your guard starts talking about your beautiful eyes...

One more thing.
The aim of the POW game is to be more realistic, and during ww2 some units cared less about prisoners then others.
In a POW game you can decide to be authentic and act out the things that men wearing your uniform did then.
But you must decide on this together with the other players so everyone knows what to expect.
For instance the SS was rather unliked by most allied units, so where snipers.
British, American and Russian troops often didnt bother taking a SS man or a sniper pow, they would shoot them on the spot.
And the SS did the same with SAS units, snipers and partisans.
When you decide to add these extra bits of realism to your POW game you must let everyone know, it will change the entire game.
SS will probably never surrender to russians as they know their faith will be death anyway, and visa versa.
Whatever rules you follow...NEVER shoot a enemy who is surrendering, you can shoot him after he is done surrendering...
After all during real combat you want to see who your taking prisoner, it might be a important person or someone with interesting information.
If you dont want to guard your prisoner you can only shoot him after you have taken him prisoner and after you make him follow you to a save location.

But these realism rules are more for the advanced POW player.

So in short;
-Dont take flags, take prisoners
-Surrender by dropping weapon and shouting hold fire
-Take your pow to a cell you can easily guard
-Liberate your mates taken pow by the enemy

IMPORTANT
When playing online we often get a lot of sad people who join but who dont know the rules, we try to kick them but they usually keep coming back to cause trouble and ruin the game.
So...from now on ever POW game I host will have a password so that only people on this forum who have had access to the rules above can join.
The Password is... surrender

THE ORIGINAL POW RULES EXPLAINED + MP PASSWORD!!!

Unread post by crusti » Sun Mar 13, 2005 1:48 pm

please play by the rules ppl, it makes it so much fun

if you dont like the team work element maybe you could try your sniping skills, just get youreself a nice vantage point and snipe away

or maybe look for the extra items that you might find (like maps or gold), these items may save your life, (if you have a corrupt guard)
this would be some much fun, working together to rob the town of all its valueables

but above all, try to NOT to die, its a basic human instinct, so surrender if you have to,
also if you have the upper hand (outnumber, have mg when enemy only has a rilfe or you catch them healing) offer them the opertunity to surrender
but theres nothing more frustrating when you catch somebody by suprise and you could easily kill them but you offer them the chance (of their life) to surrender and they turn around and shoot you, so please play fair

anyways, dune my ramblins

How about some medical treatment?

or wil you have to try and escape while stil wounded ?

Depends on your guard really.
Some will order you to drop your first aid kit and then take it from you, no matter how often you cry that your hurt.
But some might even lend you their own first aid kit so that you can help yourself.
Sometimes pow just quickly give themself first aid before the enemy can order you to drop it, bit risky as some will shoot you for that..."hey sir he made a suspicious move..."
Officially a pow should get medical treatment, but the front is a long way from any war tribuneral or warcrimes court...

Well I tried it now.. but thanks to drozdov I died at ageweakens in their jail. 300 secs maxinactivity and move and you?ll be shot.. :? well great..
As for the map (czech4) well what is it what you need there? 2 fixed points where a jail is located there no one can capture the flag or what is it what you want to change there?

Hehe, I'm a tough guard.

The ironic thing is I was just about to say you could walk around for a bit, but I heard an enemy outside so I had to concentrate on him. You really should have made a run for it when he came in first... you made a nice human shield though. :)

My suggestions for additional POW rules:
  • No large medi kits allowed, all soldiers limited to 1 small kit. This makes being wounded important, and makes it more likely you will have to surrender.
  • No contact grenades, it makes it too easy to kill people.
  • Standardisation of uniforms for added realism.
  • Possible addition of an officer character, 1 on each team, with an officer uniform and a pistol. He sits in the base - the object is to capture the enemy officer! This would obviously only work if you had serious players in the server, and if there were at least 3 or 4 players on each team. Officer Capture could be a new type of game, a bit like the VIP of objectives mode. If anyone finds out how to get a VIP on either side, that could work
  • POWs are not allowed to speak to their teammates until they are freed - they could give them advice on enemy guards, which isn't fair.

I have been on the POW server before, really enjoyed it, when will the POW server be on?

Yes damned!
I saw one kraut taking my comrade prisoner...I aimed...and then he stepped behind my comrade and opened fire on me!

Yes good idea, next pow map should have that.
No contact grenades, it makes it too easy to kill people.
Yes I agree, also no bazookas!
Standardisation of uniforms for added realism.
Yes, only 1 unit, of course we also need officers and high ranks.
And on the other hand, if there are certain units like SS you can add the realism where allies decide never to take SS prisoner.
Possible addition of an officer character, 1 on each team, with an officer uniform and a pistol. He sits in the base - the object is to capture the enemy officer! This would obviously only work if you had serious players in the server, and if there were at least 3 or 4 players on each team. Crusti and I did that, but the second the vip dies the game is over and thats not nice when somewhere else on the map the ultimate rescue attempt is about to take place.
I do like the idea of one on each team being a officer or some higher rank, the only thing that this adds is that the soldiers must try to set him free more urgently because he knows important secrets about coming missions and stuff.
Perhaps we can give the officer some secret documents that the other side then must take back.
POWs are not allowed to speak to their teammates until they are freed - they could give them advice on enemy guards, which isn't fair.
Yes true, their side should know enough by listening in to the conversation the pow has with his captor...a smart pow might give clues...

"I surrender!"
"Drop all!"
"Yes sir"
"Lay down!"
"You mean here underneath this huge clock?"

Whenever I feel like playing...
However anyone who knows the rules can set one up of course!
And if we build a map we might be able to put it on the forum to download?

The great escape...

Yesterday I made one lovely escape!
I was captured the classic way, wounded, outgunned, almost out of ammo and when peeking around the corner I saw about 3 grinning krauts coming towards me.
So I surrendered, threw gun on ground around the corner so they saw it and I was their pow...
However battle was raging on around us so quite often I had to lay down to dodge bullets and they didnt search me as well as they usually do...they let me keep my grenades...
They brought me to Hilltop farm (building in the SE corner, allies spawn) into one of the animal sheds attached to the inner courtyard.
I was left one guard, I was waiting for my mates to climb the wall and then come around behind to shoot my guard trough the window....but they came around the front and soon there was a huge firefight going on at the gate and courtyard.
My guard got nervous..."Stay here" he shouted and started leaving my cell now and then to shoot at my pals.
While he and a friend were shooting at my mates I crawled out of my cell and dropped my grenade right between them....BOOM they were gone.
I grabbed one of the corpses machineguns and went outside the main gate.
Right around the corner another kraut captured one of my mates, so he looked at him while he dropped his gear....I opened fire on his back, he died, my pal was free!
I climbed the walls, jumped in a car and woosh I was free!!
Hurrah!
