Unable to join multiplayer on LAN

I have two PCs, both of which are running Windows Vista Home. Firewalls are down, firewall in router is down, Upnp is disabled, Antivir running as antivirus, it's off, it'll get to the creating host, joining server phase and do..nothing. it doesn't freeze it just refuses to join, I've tried using my PC to host, I've tried using the other PC to host, same issue on both PCs.

My PC's specs:
Pentium D dual core at 2.8gig
3gigs of ram
Nvidia Geforce 7300GS


Other PC's specs:

Athlon 64 at 2.8 gig
3gigs of ram
onboard vid card

keep in mind, both PCs run the single player flawlessly.  it just refuses to allow one PC to connect to the other, and this is the only game I'm having issues like this with. Any help is vastly appreciated

My apologies then my friend, it's been  a rough day. Thank you for the information, I can always dual boot, and get it up and running. But I hafta ask: Is there any work arounds being tested?

I thought it was just Windows 7, not Vista as well... that might make more sense because they changed a few things with Vista... HRMMM

From what i've heard was that it was impossible to run an server with vista. Some with win7 had some luck to host one. No idea if 32 or 64bit versions. But I am not sure about the win7. Hawk might tested that. I think it has to do with that ipv6 Version they put in vista.
If you only wanted to play with an/one mate in coop with not an public server you can use hamatchi as an virtual lan server. That should still work even with vista
