Hidden & Dangerous 3?

Unread post by crusti » Wed Mar 16, 2005 1:18 pm

i will find the articles again, it does state that the engine was rewritten.
im not saying its bad or anything, my point was H&D2 has a better engine, its just what the level designers make of the game, yes HL2 is very good, i loved the level where you could drop the cars on the aliens.

i will look again for the articles
as far as i know the "source" engine is a completely new engine.
Q1 did not have those kinds of physics!
And right you are...

Fact : Quake2 is a completely selfcontained engine without any code from Quake1.

Fact : Halflife is based on a modified Quake2 (2!) engine.
Fact : Halflife2 is *not* based on the Halflife engine.

Conclusion : Halflife2 has nothingwhatsoever to do with Quake1.

Replying to crusti's post directly.

Turning your head was nice in OFP and would be nice in HD2 but I wouldnt want to loose 3rd person. I like seeing myself in 3rd person, what needs to be done in my opinion is lower the camera angle so you cant see over your head or over emplacments.

Better jumping and climbing skills, yes. :D

Givin eventually your leg should be shot off, but you can die from shock and blood loss. And not being able to hold a rifle but being able to hold a pistol? I dont understand that logic.

Destructible environments, yes. :D

You can have "specialist emphasis" in a "clan" setting. No need to have them force it. I think games are ruined by "specialties".
They are allways poorly and unrealistically implimented. I dont wanna see IS even try.

Hmm, SAS signal regiments? That would be a load of 0 rite?
Becuz there are no signal regiments in the SAS?
Or do you mean squadrons? Of wich are a load of 2?

I hope H&D3 will fix most issues from H&D2, and add some new and nice features which dont have any problems. And I would want to have beter AI and less-linear campaing. Also updated netcode would be nice.

Why less linear? What do you mean by that? You want to start in the 1st mission of the last campain then jump to the 4th mission in the second campain?

And the net code I think is the only real "issue".

I think he means that each time you play it you can take a different path and chose not to have to play the same missions as you did the last time you played. So you in effect almost get several games in one due to the varying storylines. Something I would like to see as well.

Lardassmonkey said it, basically I would like to have campaing where you dont whore same mission 10 times around to complete and get to next one in *story*, but more like if you fail in some important objective, next mission may be something else than you think (like example if you fail to blow bridge in one mission, next mission will be hell of a hard since they know your presence and you need to find someway to either blow it or simply get out of there and etc).

I would like to see the storyline or I should say objectives change with what actions you take. They tried it VERY little in H&D2 but they did try it, probably too little for most people to notice. I know I wouldn't have until I saw some documetation from Take2  I think it would be cool, even though it would still of course have a limited amount of variations but at least playing the game again would be different. Like you guys said pretty much.

I have a strong feeling that there is already H&D3 in the works. There is no reason they would not make a third installment  and I am sure Mafia 2 is underway as well.

Ohh, ok. I think the term is "non-linear" not "less" linear. LoL

Would be nice, but I've heard somewhere that they've encountered problems with the team working (at last starting) on Mafia 2 (finacial issues because of some sort of missunderstanding). Therefore Mafia 2 will be deleyed or abandond (premanently or for a while) of course if the inforamtion was true, but it was from some producer, ... shame... if it was true :(
I love the game, is really outstanding for me and I hope they can handle the problems any way.

BUT now I'm really waitng for HD3... :-)
and would be nice to break some linearity by building the mission like that: objectives, AIs, covers and etc could be placed randomly on map (I mean by some extended set of predefined position, to make it easier to implement)
another thing which bother me, is the aiming, I mean when I'am hidding and crouching near some not tall cover. Would be nice (I think) in that situation, when I start to aim, the soldier could raise the stance a little bit to aim and see target over the cover, like it is in the Vietcong (same developer Vietcong HD3 Mafia ? am I right ? ) It is very natural for humans...
thats all for now ;-)

How well do you know the folks at Illusion? I'm in Brno about once a month, and have been thinking about dropping in and saying hi. They the sort of people who would entertain random Englishmen (albeit an H&D addict) to share a bit of goss about whats in the works?

Well, all my encounters and what I have heard is that they are nice people but I some how I dont think they will ignore their contract with Atrai and tell you all about their new games  but good luck, take a camera and ask for an editor
