They Dared and Won

Unread post by Capt. Stirling » Sat Sep 24, 2011 5:34 pm

Fascinating news from the UK. The SAS in a bid to raise funds for their wounded and elderly veterans has released the official SAS War Diary which details the all the WWII operations from its L Detachemnt Origins to its 1945 Norway activities. includes 1 & 2 SAS along with SBS records.

I first learned of this on another forum. Apparently its a massive volume with a massive price tag containing richly photographed documents and original photos. Too bad only the Queen will be able to afford it

Wow that would definitely be an interesting read, huge book

Do you know what the price tag is? or is it one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" situations?

The Telegraph say's

Each 600–page volume is being sold for £975, with the print run limited to just 1,000 books.

Better start saving ;)

The site itself gives a price tag of up £2,500 for signed editions which also include an additional 24 page chapter on the SAS's post-war German hunting activities. Apparently after official disbandment when their Norway mission was complete in '45!!

This will detail the price situation.

Keep in mind that while the price is somewhat outrageous in its own right, several of these limited printings are being reserved for active and retired personnel. All the proceeds are also going to help SAS veterans from its origins to today.
