Images from games past

Unread post by KiloEcho » Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:32 am

Just thought I would share a few pictures that I have inexplicably kept stored from since the time of my first encounter with our beloved game so many years ago. These three were taken while battling through the Norway campaign.

Nice pics, The uniforms are looking so green in that bunker

I have only screenshots from the deluxe version. There a few very funny moments from multiplayer, where the game always presents some surpises.

Yes, I agree they do indeed. Sharp eyes may notice a difference there from the standard uniforms normal appearance.
I recall using the program HdDEv07 extractor to alter the existing texture applied to sas3 (e_unfn5a) along with german5 (e_unf11a)
These were stored as bitmaps in that version. It worked but I remember there were some certain limitations. Here is one more from
the quarters in C4 Norway M4 Volven Hunters which also reflects these changes. Screens converted from their original PCX format.

Perhaps this is not unlike what you may be planning to implement into the extended project in the future. If so, I am looking forward to it.

Many thanks for contributing your pictures and associated comments. At least for me, it may just be this unpredictable behavior
of the game that keeps making my experience with it to still be very satisfying and always full of interesting moments.

Nice work. I see you are expierenced in textures and 3D modeling.
I edited also HD classic and the demo, just for experiements. It's nearly the same like HD Deluxe (except that Deluxe files are not crypted).

the behaviour in multiplayer is a worthy expierence. Cars can even slide down slopes without a diver. In ardenes campaign my mate died because the unmanned jeep rolled over him.

btw. which 3D program is that?

Looks like 3ds Max for me, judging from the picture that shows the material editor.

I am not sure of the origin of that final image depicting graphics software or it's author

Just something I once noticed and kept more for inspiration than anything else

Really pleased I could finally share it with another group of like-minded individuals

In my case, I found that "free to use" gmax proved to be a suitable introductory platform

All finally made possible by using 3DS Importer by Chris Cookson (check link in next post)

Still frequently struggling to keep up with the myriad programs now available

So many things have changed, but my interest in them all remains as strong as ever

I installed g max 1.2 version and registered it.

However, it seems that it could only import 3ds files not i3d. As for exporting it only allows one file format which i don't know - probably a g max native extension.

Nice, sadly the i3d plugins are not compatible with gmax. Simply renaming 3ds to i3d works also but gives out an error.

Maybe we can share a windows xp image with 3ds max installed for public. Then everybody can edit hdd

Only the old 3ds Max 3 version can handle H&D Deluxe i3d file extension as far as i know. I have 3ds Max 3 as well as newer versions like 2017.

Someone on the forum here told that the Plugins worked also with Version 5.

Autodesk killed the compatibility and Video killed the radio star xD

Of course, H&D original doesn't need any plugin because it just uses basic 3d max model format, just deluxe.

Yeah I've heard that and some version of 3d max 4?

I have a boxed copy of 3d Max 3.1 under my desk (been there for 5 years? funny02). I had it setup on Windows 7 32 bit a while back... took forever to get it to run and install. My thoughts have always been it is better to make a new plugin or get the source code for the plugin to update it. Rather than using old 3d max 3.1 but...
