Anyone needs/wants new landscapes?

Unread post by Bighouse » Wed Mar 17, 2010 8:02 am

I was just wondering that does anyone play deluxe anymore? My passion for creating something new is growing a bit again and I might actually start doing them again. But it would be pointless (except the satisfaction of doing them) if nobody would play or want to create new missions around it.

What do you people think?

I'm up for it , been meaning to make my own but I prefer filling them up - still have a cool idea for one of the originals to do (and of course, deluxe 2 ). there's always people doing something with Deluxe, whether or not we hear about it on these forums is a completely different thing. Not sure why some people don't join and share what they made but there is more people out there than what we know of!

So, after seeing what you posted about re-generating the old missions, I might consider doing some new landscapes to support the new-old missions.
I just wonder if these stuff still work on Windows 7 64bit.

You should always have a machine dedicated to run H&D

I guess so. Just installed H&D deluxe and it worked fine (died in the first mission...practise needed  )
I didn't manage to install 3ds Max 3.0 though, setup doesn't work in 64bit environment. I have to figure something out...maybe WMWare and virtual windows 98 (or XP) or something.

If you are interested in making new maps, I'd be interested in using them to make new missions!

I don't have the ability to make maps, although I might have ideas for them.

Don't know if anyone is interested in playing them...

Count me in for playing them! I love the GS forum Baptism of Fire campaign add ons. Any missions to Yugoslavia, Czech and Italy are a must too!! Are we talking predominately outdoor style maps or can you also do interior designs much like the Germany level 1 mission? or Steiner's villa.

Outdoor maps are a lot easier to do, not that the detail of most H&D1 interiors are that difficult. The balance of detail needs to be right, it would look silly if a few models had good detail and the rest didn't. My heart is set on re-creating "snow demon" but I have a simple idea for another map but it would require creating an interior. Something I am yet to tackle in 3D Studio MAX.

Uh, time passes quickly. After my last post I haven't really tried to get 3D Max working.

Btw, are my previously created "empty sceneries" still in the site as downloadable? If you're interested, you could start with those. They are pretty simple but also give lots of freedom to you editors.

As for interiors, I think they were actually easier to do than exteriors. Just create walls with box objects and use door-size and window-sized objects to puncture the necessary holes. I once did a prison, but it ended up with so much detail that it was kinda slow with the computers then. Ofc it would work fine with todays computers

Hmm, I think I'll try to get that 3D max working again...I wanna create something  ;)

Happy days, I was able to install Virtual PC 2007, made a virtual Windows98 and installed 3DMax R3 there. Tested it and import/export works just fine.

So now the tools are up and running

Nothing special planned yet. I have just kinda played around with 3ds and tried to remember how it works  I've started making one map which is going to be something that you people can fill up with the editor. If it works then I think I'll start re-creating the original mission maps...from scratch.
