Hello,
I have WinXP and Vista Ultimate 32bit on my computer. When i run hd2 server on XP everything works fine. But when i create server on Vista - it creates properly (i can play alone) but my friend can't connect to it. He can see the server's name on the list, but when he clicks "join server" it tries to connect for a few minutes and then displays message:
Can you please advise me what to do to solve this?
I tried:
- switching firewall off
- running game as administrator
- setting compability to WinXP SP2
but nothing works
I have DHCP in my network provider althoug my ip address is the same for many months.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Hm if I want to host I have to open ports in the firewall like 11001-11004 &27900+28900. I also have to turn on the DMZ in my router. Maybe that gives you some more options to try

thank you, but i don't have any router now. The file "hd2_sabresquadron.exe" is also added to firewall, so i think i don't need to add any other ports (the whole exe file is allowed to contact any port). Besides the firewall was switched off and it didn't work.

Okay, if I used my internal modem I had to turn on the internetconection sharing option to get it working with the intenal modem. Maybe Vista has that option, too?

Unfortunately, turning on the "file and printer sharing" doesn't solve the problem. I tried also making the network connection "private" instead of "public" and still it doesn't help. I don't want to go back to WinXP to create the hd2ss server :) any other suggetsions?

As far as i know, running servers on Vista is not possible. I'm not sure entirely what it's down to but I belive it has allot to do with all this "User Account Control" shit. If I can get it working I will post back, but no promises.

After installing H&D2 + SS to a laptop that runs 32bit Vista, I made a LAN server. No problems encountered, and then I made internet server. Again, no problems. After that, I joined random online server. Once again, no problems at all.
Have you tried turning User Account Control off? I did that since I got this laptop (got tired of the continous 'Lol I need permission to use mouse, lol I need permission to open a file' complaints), and therefore based on this test it seems that 32bit Vista is capable of running the game online if you just turn it off.
Is there someone else who might be able to confirm this? One single, exceptional result is not entirely worthy to be taken as the whole truth.
